Travel The Road

This is my online journal of my travels from my Alaska home to my East Coast home to be near my family. I am not leaving for another 2 months, so you'll see the blog will be slow moving, with only a few updates on my progress...getting ready for my drive back east.

FAVORITE TIME OF YEAR

It's mid July and the Fireweed is blooming like crazy all over the place. It intrigued me the first time I saw it, back in September 2002 when I arrived, and it still does to this day!!!! It starts out about this time of year into a beautiful bloom that starts from the bottom of the flower bunch and opens on it's was up the little clusters of flowers. Once it reaches the top and is in full bloom, then it starts to get a white stringy-like silk-type.....awww, hell, Google the damn flower, already. All I know is that after the white thingies fly away, the leaves of the plant (which are pretty by themselves) turn red. I always thought that was the reason it was called Fireweed...but it's actually because the flower becomes abundant in areas where there was a soil disturbance....ie a fire, earthquake, etc. That's all I know. Like I said, Google it. I'll provide you with the pretty picture!!! (all pictures on this website were taken by ME unless stated underneath the photo)

OK THIS IS ME

Seeing as I cannot figure out for the life of me how to shrink my photo to their specifications to put into my profile, I figured I'd just post one this way.

OH! And to prove that the above picture was a lucky-good-hair-day-one and to dispell the "beautiful" comment from my angel, Pam, here's another I took of plain old me WITHOUT the good hair day (about a week and a half ago, when I was catching a cold!!!) *added 8/21*

THE SUN'L COME OUT T'MORROW

Making short appearances in our sky....The SUN!!!
But the stage is being hogged by the clouds. Still,
nomatter what, if you don't like the weather wait five minutes!
It's remained mostly cloudy and in the high 50's...GREAT packing weather for the traveling girl!!!

FROM THE OUTHOUSE

I know this is totally weird, but I took this picture from sitting in the outhouse at my friend's cabin. There's no door, so while stumbling over the thick mosslike flooring of the tundra in the chilly morning air, I looked around and decided to run back and get my camera. Nomatter where you look in Alaska, there's something beautiful.....no matter where you look and nomatter what you're doing, obviously!!! *wink*

LEAVING ALASKA

AFTER 4 YEARS OF ALASKAN BLISS, I'M HEADING BACK EAST TO FAMILY BLISS.

I'm excited about the travel opportunity that I have being in the carrer field I am in. I'm a surgical assistant. Surgical Technologist, to be exact. It's an incredible job in and of itself, but as a traveller, it's even sweeter. You join an agency that places you where you'd like to go (where there's a need for extra nurses and scrubs (me)) and then they pay your rent, reimburse your travel expenses and usually pay QUITE well. Of course there are variations on the rent thing from company to company, ie some places prefer you take a roomate, some places don't. Obviously you pick an agency that has exactly what you're looking for. That's the point I am at in my journey.
